A memorable day in the history of Malacca, China’s President Hu stepped in Melaka on 11 November, 2009. Cultural ties that has established more than 600 years ago, many thanks to Admiral Cheng Ho, a sailing pioneer who sailed The Straits of Malacca in 14th century.
The sailing of the Muslim admiral, who was also known as Zheng He, had much impact on maritime history and bilateral ties and cultural exchanges between China and more than 30 countries he visited, including with Melaka - Bernama.

Since we moved in at our current premise back in 1984, the folding door has been welcoming friends and customers from all over the world. Can’t believe that that the ‘manual’ folding door has been with us for almost 25 years!! The condition of the metal folding door turns rusty each day by the splashes of rain water, and, not to mention the oxidization of metal in the humid weather.
Thus, we have decided to change the folding door to electronic roller shutter. Take a look on how the roller shutter experts have done a good job!
Gentlemen, let starts the fire….

And here comes the colors!! It was so much fun and excitement when the colors is actually up! Giving a new look to our shop, and as lively as it is!
Sneak peak of the painting process….
Yup, it’s not as easy as you think. First, by sanding off the rough surface to eliminate rust particles and smoothen off the walls. Next apply a color base that is light in color, followed by your desired colors.
Working on it. They were usually on this routine: paint, dry, and repaint, until they got the color right! Seriously no joke. Every little aspect was being taken care of.
Time and effort. It took about five days to finish the painting. They were really good at it! It’s kinda excited when I looked at the colorful walls. Can’t stop taking shots of it throughout the days.
Paint. Frankly speaking, the odour of the paint is kinda unbearable for me. And you maybe wondering why didn’t we go for odour-free paint? The reason is that we have decided on Nippon Vinilex Fresh, which is an anti-bacterial emulsion paint solution. Having thought that this matt finish might be a good protection from bacteria growth due to our country’s moist weather all year round.
Red light! Just as the painting work was going on smoothly, our old basin was rocking! Luckily, the on-call plumber reached here in less than 10 mins to rescue us!! Phew, the world is safe!

It was a BUSY weekend for everyone of us, cleaning, shifting and reorganizing all the stuff. I can personally tell you that the whole process took up lots and lots of our energy and time. Everyday people from different profession, as in interior experts, started doing their jobs. Some jobs may take a few days, some may even required them to come back for the final touch up.
Here’s a little update from us..
Rain pouring….. The ‘cement guy’ looked helpless as the rain washed away the sands… poor thing… Meanwhile, on the other side, the carpenter continued to his job no matter rain or shine!
This Carpenter, must be in his 60’s, I guess, climbing up and down the ladder, he’s always energetic…. Okay, back to the story, he was fixing up the frame of the partition. Accuracy is his ultimate goal, slight degree variance can never runaway from his sharp eyes.
The very next day, he continued in setting up the store room. Looked at his work, so well done, at least for me, he’s worth called finish carpentry.
Tools and accessories… Bet you that I can’t name them all except for the Laser Radiator or Leveling tool that I was so keen about. Look at how this magical device can precisely align surfaces.
This is the traditional type of leveling rod. Sometimes it’s good to have both, just in case the sophisticated leveling laser can’t work.
After much discussion, the painting work began….
The clock is ticking, there were lots more to be done… Go bro!!

Last Wednesday, Jane, our loyal customer cum best friend, came to us looking for a basket of flowers.
Jane wanted to thank the doctors and nurses for taking care of her mother. Her mother suffered from a heart attack, underwent the ‘heart bypass’ or coronary artery bypass in medical term.
She requested for something special, Ferrero Rocher chocolate with flowers. Something extraordinary, very different from the rest. And, we came out with this special basket of Ferrero chocolate!! We called this ‘Garden of Ferrero’.
This basket of Ferrero and blooms is the token of appreciation to the dedicated cardiac doctors in Putra Specialist Melaka, not forgeting everyone in the Ward and Intensive Care Unit. She is so grateful that the doctos and team were really supportive, physically and emotionally, during that two toughest nights.
Jane started buying flowers from us since Alice Florist was 5-years-old. She has been with us for almost 20 years!! Sending flowers and gifts for friends’ birthday, shops’ opening ceremony, and even condolences flowers. And, sometimes she would just drop by our shop and say hi, asking how’s life going on and things like that, having great times sharing our endless stories….
Sincerely, I would take this opportunity to thank all of you who have walked with us this far, and supporting us all the times. And, we will continue to deliver our great service to you, making your LIFE beautiful!

Here a little recap of what happened over the weekend.
Get ready… putting on the mask and covering up the other side of the shop to prevent debris. The drilling was about to begin.
Loading…. piles of sand and cements, no kidding.. such a huge amount of sand and cements is needed. Meanwhile, the site supervisor is using a portable Precision Leveling Laser to align surfaces to earth level. This digital measuring tool, looks sophisticated, it’s handy, fast and accurate..hmm… find myself promoting the leveling tool. Anyway, its kinda fun to have yourself a little understanding of how the refurbish work is done step by step.
Clearing the rubbish….. Sorting out all the stuff from the cupboard to the store room. There are just too much stuff to be cleared.
Peeping through the hole….. ohh man .. they are working real hard.
Cement the floor…. ensuring that the surface is at earth level.
Temporary selling booth at the corridor.
Yeah.. the mosaic tiling is almost completed!

Alice Florist in renovation
Most of our dear friends visiting our florist yesterday were all surprised… and asking… ‘What’s going on??’ ‘Are you guys moving out?’ The shop looks empty and you can barely see flowers on the shelves. ‘Anymore flowers??’ some will even asked. Well actually, our shop is doing some major renovation, yes, WE ARE RENOVATING!!! The renovation will take about a month in estimation. Hopefully by end of April, Alice Florist will have a brand new look. So guys, for the time being, please bear with us, and we sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience caused. If you need flowers or you have any inquires for your floral needs, do not hesitate to approach us and talk to us. We are happy to assist you at all time!!
